The Monument Lab Field Trip is a hands-on activity guide to help you engage monuments in your city or town. It's a great way to engage commemorative works and the monument landscape.

Description of the Monument Lab Field Trip

"Monument Lab Field Trip is a hands-on activity guide to help you take a closer look at the monuments in your city or town. Investigate historical monuments in your community, ask questions about art and justice in public spaces, and propose your own ideas for a monument. This Field Trip can be completed outside while keeping safe distance from other people, or from home. We encourage you to explore with family, friends, classmates, and neighbors – however in a way that is most safe and accessible for you. You might find that Street View, Google Earth, or other online tools can help you explore monumental spaces from your home."

The guide includes eight activities:

  • Investigate
  • Draw & Map the Space
  • Dig In
  • Confronting History
  • Expanding the Pedestal
  • Layers of the Past
  • Propose a New Monument
  • Design Your Own Monument
